The Edge

Hudson Yards, New York City

The Edge is an observation deck attraction located at the top of 30 Hudson Yards in Manhattan. As part of an onsite permanent exhibition highlighting the construction and usage of Hudson Yards, several photographers were commissioned to document the architecture, retail environment and public use space of Hudson Yards. See the video below for examples of the photography incorporated into the final animations and physical installation.

The High Tide

Rockaway Beach, New York

The High Tide is a boutique inn located in the heart of one of the hippest summer neighborhoods in New York City and just one block from the beach. Each room is designed by a different artist, creating a unique and immersive experience. I was commissioned to document the room created by designer and artist Jason Heuer.

Artist Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow & Ground Floor Gallery

Governor’s Island, New York

Brooklyn based Ground Floor Gallery asked me to capture the evocative and ephemeral work of multidisciplinary artist Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, who had completed an artist residency on Governor’s Island. Her work was installed in one of the historical buildings on this former coast guard base and presented an interesting challenge to capture both the kinetic nature of the work and the architectural setting which informed and became part of the structure of the pieces.

Adirondack Motels

personal project

For more than a decade I have been documenting old motels and motel signs in the mountainous Adirondack region of upstate New York. In an age before smartphones, GPS, and online reviews, a motel’s sign served an important dual purpose as both advertisement and navigational aid. My hope is to preserve a photographic record of these uniquely hand-made slices of Adirondack history before they disappear completely. For more images and info, click here.

Gowanus Industrial Landmarks

personal project

The industrial neighborhood of Gowanus, Brooklyn is currently in an accelerated state of transition. With the recently approved rezoning, countless buildings are being torn down to make way for new condo developments in the inevitable march of gentrification. Since 2019 I have been working on a project documenting the 29 or so Gowanus industrial buildings that have been highlighted for potential landmarking status by the Gowanus Landmarking Coalition, many of which have been or will be affected by the rezoning. For more images and info click here.

Manhattan architectural studies

personal project

I’ve always been fascinated by the juxtaposed facades, constant cycle of construction and demolition, and sheer scale that characterizes Manhattan’s jumbled mix of architectural styles. The city feels alternately futuristic and antiquated, but always otherworldly.
